Within the close confines of a squash court, physical contact between the players is inevitable. A good percentage of the time, it is incidental and has a negligible effect on play. A player should request a let when there is a legitimate obstruction of access to the ball or ability to hit to the front wall. What is not within the rules—and also considered unsportsmanlike—is playing through the perceived interference, striking the ball, and then asking for a let afterwards. This happens sometimes when a player hits the tin, lobs the ball out or after realizing the opponent’s ball would be hard to strike. If you choose to play through, you must live with the result. You wouldn’t take it back if you played through and hit a winner, would you?
