During the NUSEA leadership conference, US Squash’s CEO Kevin Klipstein awarded the President’s Cup to William E. Simon, Jr. for his many decades of dedication, support and leadership in the game.
Bill Simon first took up squash in 1969 as a freshman at Williams College, when his tennis coach, Clarence Chaffee, suggested he learn the game in the winter months. He rose up to play No. 1 on the varsity, becoming captain of the team and an All American. Since then he has been an active singles and doubles player.
In 1998 he donated the spectacular twelve-court squash facility at Williams, the Carol Girard and Cynthia Stewart Simon Squash Center. In addition, Simon was the lead sponsor of the 1998 National Singles in Los Angeles and, in 2004, was the master of ceremonies at US Squash’s centennial celebration in New York.
Since the founding of NUSEA in 2005 Simon has been the board chair, actively guiding and leading the organization. “He’s a huge inspiration to a generation of social entrepreneurs who are passionate about making the world a better place for others,” said Klipstein.
The President’s Cup is the most prestigious individual award in US Squash, annually awarded to a person who has made substantial, sustained and significant contributions. Simon is the forty-second person to be awarded the President’s Cup and the second recipient, after Alan Fox, from California.
