A respected, well-liked leader and mentor to many, Mark Sachvie died suddenly of a heart attack while attending Adrian Dudzicki’s memorial service at the National Squash Academy on November 30.

Sachvie’s impact reached all levels of North American squash. As one of Canada’s premier event organizers and builders of squash, he hosted over 220 squash tournaments during his illustrious career and co-founded the Ontario- American Challenge, an elite junior competition contested between U.S. and Ontario teams. Sachvie was the creator of the White Oaks Resort & Spa racquets program, as well as a two-term board member and three-and-a-half-year president of Squash Ontario.

On the court, Sachvie was a leading squash professional. He coached thousands of players in Canada and placed many in U.S. colleges, including his three children, Chris, Lauren, and Nick, all of whom attended Cornell University.

“Mark was one of my best friends, biggest supporters and an invaluable mentor to me,” Squash Canada’s Executive Director Danny Da Costa said. “I am devastated by this tragedy and my heart goes out to his wife Cindy, his three children, the board and staff of Squash Ontario and to my former colleagues at White Oaks.”

The entire US Squash organization is deeply saddened by the news of Mark Sachvie’s passing and offer our condolences to the Sachvie family, Squash Ontario and Squash Canada for their loss.
