Local Call: Play it Safe, Play a Let!

Local CallThe turning rule is one of the most talked about rules in squash. This is most likely because of the ambiguity in which the rule is currently written, but a message to all avid club players—play a let! Whether a player makes an attempt at a ball on the backhand, misses and turns to the forehand to play it, or simply chooses not to play it backhanded and immediately turns to the forehand endangering their opponent, as a general rule of thumb, play a let. There is a good chance your opponent has taken up their position on the ‘T’ and will be right in the way of the ball heading to the front wall. And besides, if you turn and hit your opponent, the result will be a stroke against YOU!
